What you are looking for are the command line switches described on page 13 of the Communicate Users Guide. Using these switches you can automate communicate including the loading of the machine settings. You need modify the target properties of the shortcut for Communicate to include the " -s" switch and the pathname of your machine setting (.sc) file.
