Hi all,
Just sharing a tip I picked up through the years. In v11.5 and some
earlier versions, I have always had problems with smartcam when chaining
closed profiles. This is especially true in large process model files. It
seems that the chain doesn't always "take". A profile will seem to chain,
but when you try to machine it, the profile has lost the starting point you
had just applied in your chaining. Those of you who experience this problem
know exactly what I'm talking about.
Here's the solution (this assumes that the profile is clean with no
duplicate entities):
(1) Chain the profile by clicking on the element you want to be first in
the profile. Click on it TWICE. You should see an arrow appear on the last
element in the profile.
(2) Immediately SAVE the file. After the save is performed, the arrow
should move to the first element in the profile. If this happens, the
profile is chained permanently and is ready to machine. If you don't see
the arrow move to the first element in the profile, the chain didn't
"take".
Perform the above two steps for EVERY profile you chain, saving after each
one. I've found this to be a failsafe procedure for chaining.
