Title: New software?
I used adv. milling from 1991 to 1998, when I needed to update to a windows based system and to free form.  I figure, if it ain't broke, why fix it.  I know the cost of CAM systems can run up to $15,000 to replace the freeform that I now use, so whats the point.  I figure this will work fine for the next 3 to 6 years, and at that point, well, then suck it up and spend the big bucks.  But why spend it now when smartcam still does everything you need.  Now, if you really feel you need plunge roughing, rest milling and all that hub bub that is being marketed now, do a cost anaylisis to determine payback, and I bet you just stay with smartcam.

Subject: [mfg-smartcam] New software?

What is everyone switching to Master Cam, Surfcam, GenMach etc.? What does everyone recommend? We are a Tool & Die job shop. We design some injection and compression molds but our main parts are short and long run production jobs. I us Peps for our wires EDM's, Adv turning for Lathe and Fee Form for the VMC's & CNC Jig Grinders.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.
