I have had good success running "Hertel Max Output" drills in M2, which is
a pretty tough machining tool steel. The "Max Output" series of drills have
a TIALN coating. This coating works very well in harder, tough materials. I
run the 1/8 drills at depths over 1.0" at 75 sfm, .050" peck, and 4.5 ipm
in the M2 tool steel. The recommended spd & fd range for 316 stainless for
these drills is: 40-70 sfm, .003 ipr for a 1/8 dia.
