Time to get your heads out of the sand boys. SmartCam is no longer the greatest thing out there. Sure you can customize posts, but have you ever seen ICAM or IMS at work. They're a lot more user friendly, greater capability, and quicker. There is no way in the world you can convince me that SC is a good quality fab program. Ever hear of multi-tooling? Sc is about the most mind numbing software I've ever used. For one I can't wait for the future of machining.

Fabrication is not as complex as milling as far as software is concerned. I've used Advanced Fab for years to program Oxy and Plasma burners, Turret Punches, Whitney's, Water Jet's and Laser's with no problems. The Nesting is the only thing that wasn't as good as others but we overcame. A good post for the machine is key to�getting good programs just like it would be for any other software. I was told from Part Maker Software reps that I needed there $16,000 software to program Swiss lathes but I made a post in SmartCAM to program a 6 axis Miyano lathe. I'm not finished with the mill post yet but the turn works great and I saved the company lots of money. I'm also curious what others think about FAB. That's my 10 cents 2 cents is free I like advanced fab but that's just me. SmartCAM is tops when it comes to FAB I'm partial to SmartCAM cause it's all I�had.
