Title: CloudEight QuickNotes! Free email stationery. CloudEight Quicknotes XX, "Christmas Home"
Hi Chris,

That's a tough one.  I know a guy that thought he had a virus.  Sounds sort of the same.  he couldn't get rid of it with virus software.  what he ended up doing was returning his settings back to an earlier date.  he has XP so I don't know if this can be done with all OSs???  And I've never attemted this myself.  (might be worth a try?)
good luck, Happy Holidays

Subject: [mfg-smartcam] OT: How do I bring a computer back from a virus infection?

Hi all,
I apologize for another off topic question, but at the same time I recognize and appreciate the knowledge base represented by the users here.

My friend who owns his own small shop has three computers which were infected by a virus. I don't know which virus yet -- I wanted to post this before I go over there to try to help him. He bought Norton's AV and downloaded the latest virus definitions, but Norton's was unable to completely fix them. It sounds like his bet bet would be to re-format the hard drives and start over, but he can't find the original "restore" discs which came with the computers for two of them. These two are a couple of years old, but still have more than enough processor speed and ram to be of use to him, and he doesn't have the funds right now to replace them.

-Can you offer any advice on how to re-format the HD 's and re-install the OS on these two computers without the restore disc which contains the OS?

-My friend has the restore disc for the third computer which is only about six months old. Will something as simple as using the disc to return this computer to it's original state completely clean it of viruses?
Thanks for your time with this.
Regards,
