When I used SolidWorks, I preferred the ACIS sat format to export solids to
SmartCAM. If it's still supported in the current version of SolidWorks,
export as an ACIS v2.1 .sat file.
This option not only allows you to use surface machining in Free Form
Machining, but also allows use of the "From Solid" functions in both Free
Form and Advanced Milling as well. The "Hole" function in From Solid can
find all holes or just those of a specified diameter and create hole
elements to the hole depth and create workplanes to index based on the hole
axis.

You need a solid to do this. If all you have is a drawing stick with IGES.

Gary is right. Use the Smatcam option when exporting (see attachment). Not
sure if this will solve the hole/circle problem.

Subject: [mfg-smartcam] IMPORTING SOLIDWORKS DRAWING

Group,
We recently went to solidworks for our drawing utility and I am having a
problem when I import my files. I have been saving the solid part as an Iges
file then importing to SC. Everything imports but none of the holes are
complete circles so I can't use the circle pick tool to pick up the center.
Am I doing something wrong? do I need to save part out a different way? Has
anybody else had this problem?
I'm sure with the vast array of knowledge in this group I will get my
questions answered. Thanks in advance.
Jeremy
