I got SmartCam to look ahead by working in the past!
I saved the parameters without executing anything. Then I advanced to the next element.
After testing the current element, I was able to determine what action to take with the saved element.
It makes the code generator run slowly, but gives you unlimited choices.
I used it to adjust feedrates according to the degree of downslope and depth of cut in 3-D contours. I had the cutting feedrate and the plunge feedrate set. When cutting level or uphill, I cut at the programmed feedrate. The feedrate was reduced as the cut began going downhill, all the way down to the plunge feedrate for vertical cutting. The feedrate was also reduced whenever the cutter got deeper into the stock than the set cutter height.
It is really handy to set up cutter comp without gouging on some controls, also.
