*TNN, Sep 26, 2010* *PUNE:* A woman allegedly set her 23-year-old daughter ablaze while she was sleeping at Sathenagar in Hadapsar on Friday evening.
Amrapali Chavan (23) of Hadapsar received 40 per cent burn injuries and is being treated at the Sassoon general hospital. According to the police, the mother, Baidabai Jagtap, is mentally challenged and is suffering from various ailments. Amrapali had gone to visit Jagtap on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, said senior police inspector Shivaji Kanase. However, Jagtap had asked her to leave as Amrapali's child was troubling her. When Amrapali was asleep, Jagtap, in a fit of anger, poured kerosene on her and set her alight, said Kanase. Amrapali was rushed to the hospital by the neighbours after she raised the alarm. She has registered a complaint of attempted murder against her mother under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. Jagtap has not been arrested. Instead, the police plan to refer her to the Mental Hospital in Yerawada for treatment. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/6627957.cms?prtpage=1 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Mental Health Advocacy (News 'N Views) India" group.
