The committee of 30 headed by you was expanded to include Dr.Rumani Pillai
to voice the concerns of carers
as there seem to be plenty who are there to take up the Human RIGHTS of
disabled. So the mail by Dr.Rukmani Pillai, that
the revised draft was prepared without her knowledge and input is rather
disturbing to carers like me..The committee may
not agree to all her views but if a report is prepared without her knowledge is
something else.
I like to address you here that DISABILITY IS NOT A HEALTH ISSUE. Disability
occurs after the Health
professionals have treated an individual to the best of their ability.I see
here the work of Drug MNCs who have been at the
Human rights lawyers to further their cause with or without knowing the
implications of their action which infact
promote use of more pills.(banning ECT was the root of all efforts as it will
increase the use of pills). In the guise of
community based rehabilitation some work for closure of hospitals like
NIMHANS,AIIMS not private run
Apollo or VIMHANS.
I like you madam to concentrate on disability issues which affects mostly
Homeless abondoned mentallyill,
Half way homes,Day care,Rehabilitation Disability pension, continuing Pension
for disabled when the Government Pensioner dies
etc.etc

I'm here with the missionaries working with some 800 homeless people with
mental illness and honestly in the midst of all this , no amount of rights
based activism makes any sense to me. Regardless of what law says , the need
won't end : and as long as there is pain and suffering and need, facilities
have to exist: I don't think people will remain quiet too much longer. All
these discussions until then remain too cut off from the real world for me.
