*Chennai, Nov. 13:* A mentally disturbed youth in an inebriated condition killed a 52-year-old man who questioned him for roaming in a suspicious manner in the wee hours of Saturday. According to police, R. Devaraj, 52, G. Rajendran, 40, P. Rajendran, 50, Brahadeeshwaran, 38, and K. Angamuthu, 40, mechanical operators in a private company in Kaniyur, were on their way home at 2.30 am after night shift.
The five men were dropped in a company vehicle at Sulur, from where they walked to a residence in Ranganathapuram area. “While going through a narrow lane, they spotted a person identified as Anbazhagan (30) roaming about in a suspicious manner. The five men stopped and questioned Anbazhagan,” police said. Anbazhagan abused the five men and assaulted R. Devaraj on the head with a wooden log, while P. Rajendran was struck on his right hand. “Devaraj died on the spot while Rajendran fell, writhing in pain. The other three ran for their lives and rushed into a house, locking the door from inside,” narrated police later. Anbazhagan chased them, picked up an iron rod in front of the house and broke open the door, even as the three men and terrified residents fled from the back door. “In a short while, a crowd gathered from the neighbourhood and tried to nab the culprit. Anbazhagan resisted these attempts by throwing stones, despite which the public managed to catch him.
