*Mumbai, Jan 17* (PTI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Maharashtra government to take a final decision on the implementation of their compliance report regarding deficiencies in the home for mentally challenged girls in Shirur in Pune district by February 8.
The court had taken suo moto action in 1997 against the lack of facilities in the institution and had asked the District Judge of Pune to inspect the home and submit a report. Deputy Secretary of Women and Child Welfare department today submitted a compliance report detailing all those steps taken by the government towards improving the institution. Asked when these steps would be implemented, additional public prosecutor Madhavi Mhatre told the court a final decision would be taken only after a meeting is held with officials from other state departments. Mhatre informed the court that out of the admissible grant of Rs 21.7 lakh, Rs 10.25 lakh has been released by the government in August, 2010 for the institution. She also said that a psychiatrist and medical officer will be visiting the home once every fortnight. Amicus curie (friend of the court) Sagar Kotwal argued that the government should use the entire grant and it should be released in portions periodically. "Workers in the home have to work without salary for six months as the aid is not released by the government," Kotwal said. The court has directed the government to frame a schedule seeing to it that money is available throughout the year. http://news.oneindia.in/2011/01/18/mahatold-to-improve-conditions-at-shirurs-facilityfor-aid0126.html -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Mental Health Advocacy (News 'N Views) India" group.
