Dear Johann whatever you grievances are, please do not use the word "Lunatics" . I am shocked and grieved beyond words that such a term is used in 21st century civil society. If at all I have anything to blame , it is not our fate but our irresponsible , immature and insensitive ways of doing things. I know you personally , that you are a very sensitive person. Hence I am taking the liberty of addressing you to respect others sensitivities including that of my son and your daughter. Every moment of my life I thank the life chances that has given me a wonderful opportunity to be with my son. It is not words of flattery but facts - our quality of life is superb. He has taught me lessons in life that I did not learn from JNU or IIMs. I also wish to add that my best friends outside mental health have been the govt officials , senior bureaucrats and even the rank and file of each and every dept I visit be it KA or in Delhi. I cant forget Ravi, who is now head of the disability division in KA and of course, Ramesh Babu who used to go out of their way to promote our Cause by getting appointments with the Secretaries. I do not find any bias against the MI persons from any sector or cell of the Govt. resulting in denial of the benefits. If at all, they are apparently indifferent to MI, it is because we have not done our bit as carers to evoke the respect and care for our PwM. Let us learn a lesson from the parents group PARIVAAR- which is almost 40 yrs old and which functions with a single Voice ! How do we expect support from the Govt and the civil society if we go on spreading bitterness and inexactitudes? Be positive, be cheerful. Society is not brutal nor the State cruel.
