*Feb 17, 2011* *AHMEDABAD*: The BM Institute of Mental Health (BMIMH) will now help aspirants from rural parts who were getting left out ever since the admission process to the Bachelor of Education (special education) course went online.
"The admission process was centralised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) since 2010 and the whole process was taken online. This change resulted in a dramatic fall in the number of applications last year from the state," said an official from the institute. Dr S R Apte, in-charge director of BMIMH, told media persons on Thursday that the BEd course attracts many students after class XII as it can guarantee them a job in rural sectors. "Earlier, institutes were empowered to give admissions to applicants. We used to get an average of 400 applications for 20 seats. However last year, the number dropped to seven. The reason was that most of the aspirants from rural areas did not have access to internet," he said. To resolve the problem, BMIMH has decided to help rural students apply online from their campus. The process will start from February 17 and go on till the last date on March 15. The aspirants can come and seek help of volunteers at a nominal charge during office hours. "The course is in a great demand due to ever growing requirement for the special trainers who can deal with differently-abled children.
