Seminar intends to holistically encompass the healthcare sector as of today*

*PUNE:* Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS), a constituent of
Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune will be hosting the XIIIth
National Seminar on Hospital / Healthcare Management & Medico legal systems
on May, 6-7, 2011 at Symbiosis Knowledge Village, Pune.

>From 'mobile based' to 'patient driven' the available healthcare models are
undergoing a constant flux of innovation and change. However it is important
to analyse what drives a particular model, what determines its success and
adds to its value. To elaborate on this phenomenona, a pre-conference
symposium on 'Successful Healthcare Models' has been structured and will be
graced by stalwarts of the healthcare industry covering the hospital, IT and
Pharma sector. Dr Sangita Reddy, Executive Director, Apollo Group and Dr
Ravindranathan, Chairman and MD -Global Hospitals will represent the
hospitals; Ganesh Nayak - Executive Director - Zydus Cadila- Pharma Sector
and Raghupathi Cavale- Vice President & Health India Business - Infosys will
address the audience on IT solutions in the healthcare sector.

A hospital building is not just a physical entity; each structure has a
story of its own. The quote "Architecture is a social act and the material
theater of human activity" clearly underlines the importance that
architecture plays in efficient and effective hospital planning. What is
more fascinating is the emerging trends in hospital architecture; from going
green to keeping the environment clean. Hospitals today not only serve the
community but also the space they breathe in. Hence, 'Emerging Trends in
Healthcare Architecture' is a potential area to be encompassed by renowned
personalities like Architect Sasidhar- MD (Archi-Medes International Private
Ltd) and Dr Vivek Desai (MD- HOSMAC India Private Ltd)

The healthcare domain is now classified as an industry and has come under
the microscopic view of the legalities and their provisions. This constant
scrutiny has been both a bane and a boon but there is no denying the
importance of compliance to the laws of the land. This topic' Legal Aspects
Of Healthcare' shall be discussed by Dr Nikhil Datar, Board of Consultants
(Kay Legal) and Dr Sanjay Gupte, President (FOGSI 2010).

It is said 'it's a small world' and linking it even further is
globalisation. Globalisation in healthcare is enabling standardisation of
level of care. There is more and more agreement on the fact that
globalisation is an extremely complex phenomenon. Its impact on healthcare
requires pondering over. Vishal Bali - CEO (Fortis) would be expressing his
views on the same.

Health today is not just the mere absence of disease but a state of
physical, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing. Considering the growing
acceptance of overall wellbeing "Wellness and Aesthetics" issues will be
addressed by Prof Gerard Bodekar, Senior Faculty - Oxford University Medical
School, UK; Dr Issac Mathai - Chairman and MD, Soukhya Group; Ramesh Vangal,
Chairman- Kerala Ayurveda Ltd and Sandeep Ahuja, MD , VLCC.

Health insurance is soon to be a 35000 crores industry in the near future.
However, it is essential to learn from the past; apply it to the present
scenario and a propose an efficient model for the future. With this view
"Healthcare Insurance ; Past Present and Future" will be discussed by Dr N S
R Chandraprasad; Chairman and MD - National Insurance Company along with Ltd
Gen(Retd) Dr M A Tutakne, Advisor, Medical projects, Symbiosis.

If recruitment is difficult the employee retention is an uphill task by
itself. The HR department and its functioning is crucial to the overall
development and progress of the healthcare facility. With this objective of
understanding "HR Challenges in healthcare" this topic shall be addressed by
Dr Nagendra Swami, President, Manipal Hospital and Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean
Faculty of Health Sciences, SIU.

Elaborating on the patient driven models further, healthcare industry today
has realised the importance of 'direct to consumer marketing'; and
developing well demarcated image of their services in the minds of the
public. Hospitals today are merging with hospitality to distinguish their
services as one of a kind experience. Elaborating this concept further on
"Healthcare Communication- Branding and Marketing" will be Mr Vivek Shukla,
Healthcare Marketing Consultant.

To ensure the success of any venture in healthcare, it is important to
understand the client, his wants, his needs both expressed and implied.
Beyond understanding his/ her needs it is also important to develop,
maintain and nurture relations and implement a proactive approach to client
management. What entails "Client Management" shall be dealt by Dr Rajeev
Boudhankar- Vice President- Kohinoor Hospital, Mumbai and Dr Santosh Kakade
A&E Consultant, Aditya Birla Hospital.

A brief overview of the Indian healthcare domain, what makes it unique, what
drives it and what are the hurdles faced in the day to day progress with a
discussion on the proposed solutions for the same. "Indian Healthcare
:Challenges and solutions" shall be presented by Muralidharan Nair, Partner,
Life Sciences Practices , E&Y and Maj Gen(Retd) Dr V W Tilak, Advisor,
Academics, SIHS.

The seminar concludes with the valedictory ceremony. Hon'ble Shri Ghulam
Nabi Azad, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India will be
the Chief Guest & Dr Arun Jamkar, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra University of
Health Sciences (MUHS) will be the Guest of Honour, Adv Ram Jethmalani,
Former Union Law Minister will preside over the ceremony.
