*7 April 2011 * *HYDERABAD *: A 72-year-old woman dies of old age and her 76-tear-old husband, a retired junior civil judge, commits suicide in grief. Their 46-year-old mentally challenged son attempts to dispose of the bodies when neighbours alert the cops.
This chilling drama unfolded in Rajendranagar on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday evening. According to the police, K Hanumantha Rao, retired junior civil judge in Bhongir of Nalgonda district, was living at Plot No 228 in Abhyudya Nagar in Bandlaguda near Kali Mandir under Rajendranagar police limits, along with his wife K Sarojini. Their son, K Narsing Rao, aged 46, said to be mentally challenged because of which his wife left him about 15 years ago, was also living with them in a single room that was given to him by his parents. In his statement to the police, Narsing Rao told the police that his mother was a diabetic and that she died in her sleep two days ago. On realising that his wife was no more, Hanumantha Rao hanged himself to death from the ceiling fan of the bedroom the same day. Narsing Rao said he had spent the next days all by himself and did not inform anyone about the death of his parents, Rajendranagar ACP M Sarveswara Reddy told TOI. According to the cops, around 5 pm on Wednesday, Narsing Rao dragged the two bodies to the front of his house and climbed up the nearby mango tree. Finding him plucking mango leaves and cutting the tree branches, the neighbours grew suspicious and questioned him. When he told them that he was going to burn the bodies of his parents, they alerted the police, the ACP said. The bodies of Hanumantha Rao and Saroja were shifted to Osmania General Hospital and a case of suspicious death was registered.
