Dr Bharat Kumar Sharma, MBBS MS, has been missing from his place in Bihar since 2007 and was found and reunited with his family at Padiala village near Kharar on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old doctor had lost his way in a mentally ill state after he was addicted to drugs, which led to his separation. Universal Disabled Caretaker Social Welfare Society<http://caredisabled.org/>, an NGO working for the welfare of the disabled, abandoned and missing destitute, came to the rescue of the missing doctor. It was after almost a month of care and treatment that Dr Sharma was rehabilitated and made able to reveal his whereabouts, disclosed the NGO’s promoter Rajinder Kaur. As soon ashis family back home in Patna got a call from the NGO, they rushed here to meet and claim their lost member. While Sarita was unable to control her emotions, the couple’s only son, who is a Class X student, was on cloud nine. Besides, the doctor’s uncle Ram Kumar Sharma and their neighbour Mukund Kumar also came all the way from Bihar to take back their missing family member. It was on November 20, 2007, that Dr Sharma had left for the market from his uncle’s house in Dayanagar village near Patna at around 10 am but never returned back. “We searched for him everywhere and also sought the police’s help but to no avail,” recalls Ram. On April 22, 2011, Dr Sharma was spotted roaming aimlessly outside the NGO’s campus. “He was in a miserable state, with starvation clearly visible from his condition,” revealed Kaur. The NGO admitted Dr Sharma and put him under proper treatment and care, following which he started regaining his lost memory and revealed his whereabouts. Except for the fact that he had boarded a train from Patna to Delhi, Dr Sharma could not yet recall how and when he reached here. “He was running his own clinic and was so generous that he used to provide free treatment to the poor and needy,” claimed his family.
