*24 Sep 2011* *SAMBALPUR <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambalpur>*: Even as the agitating medicos decided to continue the strike despite the Orissa High Court directive, VVS Medical witnessed a flurry of activity with the Swasthya Vikash Samiti (SVS) getting into action mode.
The HC on Thursday had directed the medicos to join duty by the next day. While the students have moved a review petition demanding withdrawal of police cases against them, the agitation has badly affected health services at the hospital which is already grappling with doctor shortage.Meanwhile, the SVS began discussions on development of the institution, medical facilities and services. The meeting chaired by the Revenue Division Commissioner (North) K C Barik decided to strength security at the hospital by issuing identity cards and passes. The house resolved to start the Physiotherapy Centre with contractual appointment of two professionals. *A Yoga and Research Centre for the mentally challenged patients was also discussed. * The SVS also approved purchase of digital X-Ray, Laparoscopy and complete blood count machines for the hospital. District Collector, Mrinalini Darswal, Superintendent of Police, Nikhil Kanodia, Principal of the College Dr Santosh Kumar Behera, Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr G S Das, Head of Departments, Burla NAC Chairperson, Chandrabati Naik participated.On the other hand, with the High Court calling for eviction of encroachers, the shopkeepers operating from campus feared for their livelihood. Those running shops on Medical campus and along the boundary met the District Collector Mrinalini Darswal and apprised her of their plight.
