*11 Nov, 2011* *MADIKERI *: A 13-year-old dumb and mentally challenged boy was freed and sent to Nimhans, Bangalore, for treatment.
Venkatesh, son of Chandra (35) and Pushpa (30), was chained along with the pet dog by his parents in Ammathi. He was never sent to special school nor given any medical treatment. The parents, according to the neighbours, were allegedly drunk most of the time. The couple has three children aged 13, 8 and 4. The eight-year-old daughter was going to a school. But Venkatesh was kept tied in a corner of the room in throughout the day. Neighbours complained to a BJP office-bearer, Suvin Ganapathy. He along with a zilla panchayat member Kanthi Belliappa, RMC member Vasanth and other representatives visited the house. The team then spoke to assembly speaker K G Bopaiah who fixed an appointment with doctors at Nimhans. Suvin Ganapathy and Kanthi Belliappa will bear the cost of treatment. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-11-11/mysore/30386860_1_pet-dog-assembly-speaker-neighbours -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Mental Health Advocacy (News 'N Views) India" group.
