*28-JAN-2012* *PANAJI* : Noted psychiatrist from Mumbai Harish Shetty will conduct the second round of the series of sensitisation workshops on “Together for Children: Safeguarding the Mental Health of Children and Adolescents” here on Wednesday-Thursday.
The Children's Rights in Goa (CRG) in collaboration with Directorate of Higher Education in Goa will hold the workshop at GCCI Hall here. Teachers and Parent Teachers' Associations (PTAs) from High Schools, and, teachers and students from the Higher Secondary Schools from north Goa will be participating. Samira Kazi, chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights will be the chief guest. There have been incidents of children committing suicide. How to instil discipline in students without using corporal punishment was a matter that teachers were concerned about especially since the Goa Children's Act explicitly banned the use of corporal punishment. CRG director Nishta Desai told The Hindu here on Friday that the list of problems faced in educational institutions had increased but with no mechanisms identified to address them. Hence, CRG felt that it was necessary to organise sessions for children, adolescents, and teachers who work with them as well as PTAs involved with schoolchildren.. CRG had organised the workshop on December 1 and 2, 2011.
