*Kozhikode *: Chief minister Oommen Chandy laid the foundation stone of the
Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (IMHANS), fulfilling the
demand of the district for years. CM said there should be a system in the
state which would ensure modern facilities for all in health sector. The
central government is mulling number of modern health clinics and effort
would be made to implement the same in Kerala too.

He said the state government has asked the central government to uplift the
regional cancer centre in Thiruvananthapuram to National Cancer Centre and
Malabar Cancer Centre in Thalassery to Regional Cancer Centre status and
the central government has agreed to it. Health minister Adooor Prakash,
who presided over the function, said Rs 10 crore central aid for IMHANS
would be got soon. The building is being constructed near the Medical
college chest hospital. The construction of four-storied building would be
completed within 18 months. Hindustan Latex is constructing the building.
