Thiruvananthapuram : Battery-powered vehicles are quite popular on huge
campuses since they help transport people and goods more efficiently and also
make commuting easier for physically challenged persons.
The Mental Health Centre (MHC) at Peroorkada here, spread across 36 acres, has
acquired a battery-operated vehicle to transport people and to cart medicines
and food to various wards on the campus.
The Medical College Hospital here already has a similar facility.
The six-seater, battery-powered vehicle, at Rs.6.06 lakh, is a gift to the MHC
from the State Bank of Travancore. The bank's Peroorkada branch had taken up
the project as part of their community service initiative. The key to the
vehicle was handed over to MHC Superintendent G. Sunilkumar by SBT Managing
Director P. Nandakumar at a function at the hospital on Friday
“As all wards are scattered across the campus, serving meals to patients from
the canteen has always been a cumbersome task. Our employees lug huge vessels
one ward to the other to serve patients on time.
The vehicle is a perfect for us as it makes it so much easier for the staff to
dispense medicines as well as food to patients,” Dr. Sunilkumar said.
The vehicle would be useful to transport patients also, he added.
The Medical College Hospital had acquired two battery-operated REVA cars to
transport patients
