MUMBAI : A 27-year-old mentally-challenged man committed suicide by hanging
himself at his Andheri residence late on Wednesday evening. The police has
found no suicide note in the residence.
Amar Singh, the deceased, resided at Akal Society in JB Nagar with his father,
an older brother who is married, and a cousin.

Singh owned a garage where he repaired two wheelers, but at times, he would
abruptly stop working. According to his father, he also ran away from home
twice in the past.

Late on Wednesday, Singh was alone at home. When his cousin returned to their
flat, he found that the door was locked from inside and nobody was responding
to his knocking. The cousin then broke the door down with the help of some
neighbours and was stunned to find Singh hanging from a beam in the ceiling.

Singh's elder brother was then informed, who rushed back home and later
contacted the police. Singh was immediately rushed to the Cooper Hospital where
he was declared dead before admission and the body was sent for an autopsy.

"We will be recording the statements of his family members and will also go
through his medical history and speak to the doctors who treated him," said an
officer.

A case of accidental death has been registered by the Andheri police.
