KOCHI: An Air Asia passenger, who came from Singapore, was taken into custody
at the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) on Sunday for attempting to
barge into the cockpit while the flight was mid-air.
According to Nedumbassery police, the incident occurred on Saturday midnight
when the passenger, who was reportedly mentally ill, created a flutter by
trying to forcefully open the cockpit door.
Police said the passenger hailing from Malappuram was travelling with his
relative. He rose from his seat and ran towards the cockpit. Though he tried to
pull the door of the cockpit open, he failed to do so. However, other
passengers immediately intervened and pulled him away.
The CIAL security was immediately alerted about the incident. When the flight
landed at the airport, the passenger was detained and taken to Nedumbassery
police station. Police officials said that no further action was taken against
the person as he was mentally ill. He was let off along with his family
members, who came from Malappuram.
