MUMBAI: The Nehru Nagar police on Sunday arrested three youths for
allegedly raping a 24-year-old mentally ill woman over a period. The matter
came to light when the victim's brother came to know during health check up of
his ill sister that she is six-month old pregnant.
Senior inspector Bhimdev Rathod said the victim revealed the incident only
after several hours after her brother convinced her to name the accused. "The
three accused -- - Ravi alias Salim Shaikh (22), Kalu alias Prashant Kamble
(23) and Salman Shaikh (19) -- use to rape her on different occasions. The
incident has occurred in front of victim's sister. But she too is mentally ill
and didn't retaliate when the victim was raped," said Rathod. After the
incident came to light a complaint was lodged against the trio. The complainant
works as a labourer and resides with his two sisters in Hanuman Nagar in Kurla
(East). On Friday, the complainant found out that his sister was pregnant. In
the complaint, the victim's brother said, "When I inquired about it I found out
the names of two men and immediately reported the matter to the police. The
accused too are labourers."
