MUMBAI : A 20-year-old woman's attempt to end her life on the railway tracks at
Mahalaxmi was foiled by an alert motorman on Friday morning. The woman, Shabra
Bano Ansari, turned out to be a mental health patient who had run away from
home.

Around 9.30am on Friday, Shabra reached Mahalaxmi station and waited at the
platform. As the train approached, Shabra suddenly jumped on the tracks. The
motorman saw her and applied the brakes just in time. As the train had slowed
down, it halted before Shabra could be hit. Commuters informed the Government
Railway Police and Shabra was taken to Nair Hospital. Doctors quizzed her
gently and found out that she stayed at E Moses Road in Worli. They informed
the cops who got in touch with Shabra's family.

"Shabra's father works with a steel company in Navi Mumbai. She has studied
only till Class VII. Her father told us that she was und
ergoing psychiatric treatment," said senior inspector Rajendra Trivedi, Mumbai
Central GRP.

On Friday, Shabra's parents planned to take her to a renowned doctor for her
treatment. Shabra was frightened and ran away from home.
