BANGALORE : Residents in and around Byatarayanapura (Kodigehalli police limits)
witnessed high drama on Monday, after a youth made an attempt to jump to death
from the elevated expressway on Bellary Road.
A large number of people gathered near the spot and traffic movement was
disrupted for a while. The police had a tough time bringing him down. He is
said to be a mentally challenged person. A few passers-by noticed the youth
atop a pillar of the expressway. He had tied both his legs with a wire, while
the other end of the wire was tied to a part of the bridge.
He jumped off the bridge and hanged in the air, around 1.15 pm. On being
alerted, the police rushed to the spot. Their efforts to convince him to come
down failed. A policeman climbed to the place where the man was hanging, using
a ladder, and brought him down. The drama lasted for nearly an hour, police
said. It is not known how and when he climbed the pillar.
He is suffering from a mental disorder. He claims to be Anil Kumar Kachcha from
Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. He did not disclose any other details.
The City police alerted the Gorakhpur police about Kachcha and his attempt to
kill himself. The local police requested their Gorakhpur counterparts to help
trace the man’s family members.
