CHENNAI: A mentally ill man attacked two policemen who tried to rescue him from
coming under a bus in Vyasarpadi on Tuesday morning.
Shivakumar, 36, of MKB Nagar was walking near the Vyasarpadi bus stop when a
bus came along. Chinnappan, traffic constable from Vyasarpadi and
Iyyanampillai, special sub-inspector, MKB Nagar, tried to rescue Shivakumar.
But Shivakumar became furious when they tried to rescue him and attacked them
with a pair of scissors.
Chinnappan was injured in the stomach, while Iyyanampillai suffered injuries to
the chest. Passersby came to their rescue and stopped Shivakumar.
Shivakumar, who is being taken care of by his brother, was produced before a
magistrate and is likely to undergo a test in Institute of Mental Health.
