Dear all One of the major problems children with mental and intellectual disabilities face, is due to all powers of issuing disability certificates being shifted to Pediatrics which often do not have the expertise or manpower to conduct the necessary disability evaluations. They depend on psychiatrists and clinical psychologists who work in a different department. Thus the hapless parents have to run from department to department. Parents should therefore campaign for psychiatrists to be included in the panel of experts who can directly issue disability certificates to children to avoid delay. repeated appeals by the Indian Psychiatric Society to both health and Social Justice ministries have not led to any solution.
