It might, but that wouldn't likely be a driver problem per se.  Audio in 
Ubuntu is a multi-layered beast with alsa at the bottom and pulseaudio in the 
middle.  So if there were a problem with pulse or its interactions with the 
driver, you might have problems with some applications configured to talk to 
pulse, but not with others configured to talk directly to the driver.

It's easy to rule this out, just run an audio program configured to talk 
directly to the driver.
