A few days ago I reinstalled my laptop with Debian amd64. I installed KDE4, which installed phonon. All the sound functions I've tried work so far, but I just noticed that ALSA isn't installed, nor are any of the ALSA kernel modules loaded. I'm glad everything works, but.... why does it work? :-P I thought ALSA was generally a requirement?
