Hi everyone,

I havent posted on here much, but I have been following most of the threads.
Last week my tape drive died in my fedora 8 server, it is an IBM Ultrium LTO-3.

I bought a refurbished replacement of the drive, same model. I got it installed
and the server is recognizing the drive. And fedora is recognizing the drive
but when I run this command

sudo /bin/mt -f /dev/st0 status

I get this response:

SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=-1, block number=-1, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x0 (default).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (10000):
 IM_REP_EN

The hooks in the drive that pull the tape into the drive stay at the in
position and dont move out to accept a tape..

I checked /proc/scsi/scsi and the drive is there and I checked dmesg and the
drive is being attached to st0 the only thing I did notice in dmesg was this:
Driver 'st' needs updating - please use bus_type methods

Right now Im leaning to a bad refurbished drive, what does everyone else think?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Antoni Sousa
