When a cpu overheats it emits a continuous series of long beeps, or
sometimes just one beep that never ends until it turns it self off.

But, like other hardware problems, machines let you know without you having to do anything. This one remains completely silent until any key
is pressed, then emits continuous short beeps until the key is let up.
Then it goes back to silent. So it is apparently not conplaining
about any hardware problem it finds on its own.

Then after a minute or so, it remains silent no matter what.

I tried plugging in a usb keyboard and mouse, but no change in behavior.
