Hopefully that dead link you found was on the Learn page, I have fixed
that. When/If Sean uploads his materials you can find them at
http://mhvlug.org/meeting/2011/building-a-community-site-with-drupal.
I've uploaded the slides for reference, but without the talk, I suspect
they won't be that useful.
