I had a thoroughly enjoyable time at the July Arduino meeting. I think
making a yearly Arduino night is a great idea. Where else do you
combine hardware and software in such an interesting, low cost, and
innovative way? The film was great, and I enjoyed seeing every one's
projects. In fact I'll have to build Joe's temperature sensor right
away. Where I work I have a window office, so I'm right by the air
vents. Even in summer it is so cold where I sit I have to wear a
sweater most days, and my fingers get so cold it's often hard to type.
The way Joe had it set up the temperature was being sent to an editor
on his computer. If I can rig that up I can then save the files to
document how frigging cold it is where I sit!

Also great meeting Ed Nisley. As I told Ed I'm a big fan of his
writing from way back. In fact, I just picked up a huge stack of old
Dr. Dobbs so now I can put Ed's handsome, bearded fact to his writing
:)

Sorry I had to leave so soon - I wanted to get home early so I could
watch the USA women world cup soccer team on the DVR. You might know
how that turned out :)

Great job on the meeting, hope to see you next month for Scala.

Thanks for the great feedback. I absolutely agree that it was a blast. Joe's got some pictures up of the event here - http://mhvlug.org/news/2011/07/july-6th-2011-meeting-the-arduino-palooza-event-of-the-year

We had at least 40 folks there over the night (we think more, as a bunch of folks came in late). That's about double any July meeting we've had in a while. Very great turn out. The room was buzzing until 7:30 with people running around learning what they could do with these.

For people that want to watch or re-watch the documentary, it is available on vimeo - http://vimeo.com/18539129 under creative commons license.

If anyone is interested in my project, I stuck the source code up here - https://github.com/sdague/arduino-rgbcolorstrip. I'll provide some diagrams later.
