Ugh!  Usually the "OK" choice is automatically selected.  What the hell.

I've heard of several people who have run into that problem.  Not sure which 
package you'd need to install to get the correct firmware; Ubuntu and Debian 
handle this particular thing quite differently.

I do the same.  I greatly prefer wicd over network-manager.

python-urwid is only a dependency if you install wicd-curses, i.e. the wicd 
ANSI color text client.  The text client comes in handy if ever you need to 
use your computer from text console and X breaks and you need wireless.  
Mostly I install it just to have the peace of mind that I could, rather than 
really running into that situation much.  [Has happened on occasion, though.]
