I will not be able to be at the meeting, but that does not mean you should not! ( also note it's at Lourdes High School Auditorium )
I have found that the Pi makes a dang good tiny server. Here are some helpful tweaks to make the Pi more server like: *Raspberry-Pi Raspbian Server Prep*: http://extremeshok.com/blog/debian/raspberry-pi-raspbian-server-preparation/ *Raspberry-Pi Raspbian tuning/optimizing Optimizing for reduced memory usage:* http://extremeshok.com/blog/debian/raspberry-pi-raspbian-tuning-optimising-optimizing-for-reduced-memory-usage/ Also note that you can set the speed up to 900 without changing voltage! *Hardware that I just ordered to enhance the Pi:* SanDisk 16GB Extreme SD SDHC Secure Digital Card UHS-I Class 10 45MB/s 300X (SDSDX-016G-X46) - Retail Package<http://SanDisk%2016GB%20Extreme%20SD%20SDHC%20Secure%20Digital%20Card%20UHS-I%20Class%2010%2045MB/s%20300X%20%28SDSDX-016G-X46%29%20-%20Retail%20Package>for $21 The 2Gb C4 class card I'm using is too small and too slow, C10 "UHS Speed Class 1" cards are designed for tablets, thus better suited for the Pi's chip. Also I could have gone no-name for $16 but $5 in savings was not worth it. Going with brand names on SD cards is a good rule. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA12K0CJ9421 Rosewill RHB-320 7 Ports USB 2.0/1.1 Hub with Power Adapter for $13 Want to hookup my 300Gb and 500Gb USB 2.0 drives, but they need power, this low-cost powered ( with 2A power wall-wart ) hub should do the trick. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182174 I am now experimenting with deploying this as a portable personal cloud device. I am experimenting with ownCloud 4.0.4 which works great on Raspbian http://owncloud.org/ Also want to note that still one of the best places for information and open discussion is IRC on the freenode.net server channels you should be in are "#mhvlug,#squidwrench" then check out the Raspberry Pi channels which are are "#raspberrypi,#raspbian" with the people in #raspbian are exreamly helpful and friendly, #raspberrypi is just crowded but also very helpful. -- /** Joe Apuzzo ** Call: KD2AKU ** PGP/GPG: key ID BB5C7 **/
