Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for free Linux courseware. I'm having trouble getting started with exercise 1 (vim editor) and could use some help. Since I'm running Linux, I didn't do any of the setup described in exercise 0 regarding setting up a virtual machine. In exercise 1, when I enter "vim hello.txt", at the bottom of the simulated screen I get: "hello.txt 1/1 100%". The text says I should get: "hello.txt" [New File] 0,0-1 All Some of the cursor control commands don't work for me, such as j. I can get into insert mode but escape doesn't work, I don't get back into navigate mode. If I blindly follow the instructions, I first issue "vim hello, txt". The green cursor is positioned on the H of "Hello, Brave adventurer". Instruction says I should then issue "iRoses are red" (the cursor is on the H. He didn't say to reposition the cursor.). For me this overwrites the "Hello, Brave adventurer", rather than starting new lines as is shown. Am I missing something basic or are the instructions incomplete? _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) Vassar College Jan 9 - High Performance Computing at a Small Scale Feb 6 - Raspberry Pi Mar 6 - 10th Anniversary Meeting!
