My ancient Canon S630 had the same problem: the margins ate the output's edges. Somehow, CUPS thought the printable area was just slightly larger than the printer could actually handle.

I tried *everything* to shrink that area, including editing the relevant fields in the PPD file(s), with no success at all.

Eventually I got TurboPrint, which Just Worked.

Years passed, and now the stock CUPS / Gutenprint drivers Just Work and I don't need TurboPrint. Except that, for some unknown reason, test pages don't print.

I have no idea what's going on...
