Going to give that a shot as soon as I can. > > The "vesa" driver is the best temporary fallback for Nvidia cards. The other > thing you might try is the 'nouveau' driver. Heh - yeah - I am doing most of my web reading on the tablet (tf700) so sometimes can't really tell how much is where - but I tried most of pretty much any suggestion on the first two pages there at least. Mostly the purging and re-getting packages stuff. Still pretty clueless on this stuff. [You can look up the > recommended version of the driver at Nvidia's site.] I noticed ;-) - what I couldn't really find was that last bit - looking things up on the Nvidia site. No worries - I'll get there, but I am starting to prepare to just use command line to insure files are off to the USB Tb drive and eventually just scrap the system altogether. Or maybe make it a minimal Linux box - it still WORKS at least - which I find kind of amazing. > > > Tried removing that and going back to -173, still can't get the xorg.conf > > file back. > > There's a command line option to Xorg to have it make a default xorg.conf.new > file, but I don't recall off the top of my head what it is. > I will try to find that today or whenever I can get back to it. If nothing else, this is getting me into the system at a level I haven't spent much time with - which is a shame really. I need to know more about this stuff - work demands it and I am being way too lazy about it. Thanks! JC
