Not specifically on topic, so email me privately if you think you should... Running /usr/sbin/inetd on a local debian box does some problematic things. Anyone can run it (by default) and it seems to hog sockets to the extent that most programs can no longer connect to the machine (telnet, talk, etc) Can someone explain the process of why this happens, and if it would be totally unwise to restrict access to inetd.
