There is a modem command you can add to the init string which causes it to
return the line connection speed instead of the CPU->modem speed.
I don't have a guide handy, but I think its an `X' setting, possibly `X2'.
I wrote it permanently into my modem's setup, so its not in my init string.
Look it up before you try anything.....it works for me....
