Just recently I upgraded to OS 3.5 with my A2000/GVP G-force 040 (with integral GVP
I/O Extender) and installed the version of Miami which came on the OS 3.5 CD. Before
the upgrade, I had used Miami 1.1 and OS 2.04 with MUI and had no problems. But now,
when the "Miami Init" program tries to communicate with my modem, it keeps reporting
that the modem is not responding.
The modem is a Cardinal 28.8. I have tried selecting its own entry from the modem
list, as well as "Hayes compatible", and have even tried specifying "Other" and
entering the init string from the modem's manual. No luck. I am 100% sure that the
modem is attached to the GVP serial device, unit 0, and the "TR" (terminal ready)
light does come on on the modem's LED as soon as I have specified this serial device.
Lastly, I know that the fault lies neither with the modem nor the GVP serial port, as
an older BBS program (A-Talk III) can communicate just fine with the modem
(impressively, it even runs right on the Picasso96 workbench with all 256 colors
avaliable! Now that's good programming for 1988 software :). But BBSs are not a good
replacement or the internet. What could I be doing wrong??
