What do I need? I have all the key files & upgrades in backup
version 2.1 in another partition but when I tried to upgrade that version
copied (afraid to destroy the only working copy!) into my reformatted
partion, it wouldn't do it.

Did you point the Miami: assign at the right place?

What I typically do when installing a significant upgrade is:

1) Create a new directory.

2) Copy the entire contents of Miami: (including subdirs) to it.

3) Do the install over the original directory.

If the upgrade works, everything is fine. If there's a problem, I can
just reassign Miami: to the backup dir.
