Well, I hope the DSL installation/support is better in Germany than here.
I don't have it myself, but I do have 2 PC's and my Amiga sharing a
Cable-Modem.

Not to my knowledge, but other than DSL issues you are mostly dealing with
intra-net / NAT issues which are discussed in many networking FAQs.

Need? Maybe, though there are surely other solutions, but it sure doesn't
hurt, and is generally the best solution, especially with the low cost of
many "SOHO" (Small Office/Home Office) type models. I have a SMC barricade 4
port LAN + 1 WAN port + 1 parallel port for a printer. (It also has a WAN
serial port, and can be used with a regular modem or ISDN/TA if (when?) your
DSL service takes a crap. Its biggest annoyance seems to be that it prints a
few garbage characters to my printer when I cycle the power on the router.
Fortunately, this is very rare --It seems quite stable, and has run for
months without a reboot.

Almost undoubtedly, but I have no experience with this particular model.
Most of these devices have a simple HTTP interface. Just plug them in and
point your browser to their default address. (usually 192.168.1.???) Easy
as pie.

If you have and external router, you only need Miami. (Not DX) MiamiDx is
capable of _being_ the router (and firewall), though for best security in
this situation you would need two ethernet cards on your Amiga. Given the
cheap cost of the latest routers, I couldn't justify keeping my poor old
Amiga on 24x7 anymore. (I used to route my PCs to the internet over a 56K
modem with my Amiga.) Then I got the Barricade and did the same with it --
until the Cable modem service became available in my area. The SMC's
firewall seems quite secure, and is easily configured for "special" apps. It
seems to be running embedded Linux. (but that's just an educated guess.)
I assume the other routers (LinkSys also makes a popular one) are quite
similar in performance and features. The SMC one has two extras that I did
not see on any other comparable model, a print-server, and a serial port.
When the cable installer came out, I had the Barricade configured and running
within 30 seconds of the Cable modem coming on-line. I never let the tech
touch my computer, and have yet to even insert the "required" CD-ROM of
software that they provided. The hardest part of the install was getting the
client machines setup to print to the print server, and even that wasn't too
bad. The SMC came with a little program that creates a "fale printer port"
on your windows machine. Windows treats it like a local port, and you
configure your regular print driver to print to that "port". The "fake port"
then copies it (unix lpr style) to the print server. Works well even with
Epson drivers that seem to have some bad network "issues".
For the Amiga, I have a small AREXX script that Miami launches on startup.
Slightly modified from a script I found on Aminet. It uses "Cmd" to redirect
printer output to a file, and "lpr" (also from Aminet) to send it to the
print server. Not the most elegant solution, but it is simple and reliable.
