That's two questions.  ;-)  Here's answers to the lot:

I have one configuration for "MiamiDx," as it can handle multiple
accounts, easily.  Just seperate entries for which number is dialled, and
the DNS servers are programmed in so that the right one is used based on
what number is dialled.

For "Miami," I have seperate configurations for each ISP, as it's easier
to load up seperate configurations which change phone numbers, DNS
servers, user log-on details, etc.  It's just as well I'm not having to do
lots of configuring to the interfaces, else I'd have to be duplicating a
lot of things on each configuration (other services, running services,
etc.).

For YAM I just use the one configuration.  I've found, in the past, that
trying to get YAM to load in a new configuration results in it trashing
the contents.  This one configuration is suitable for collecting mail from
any ISP, but only for posting through one ISP.

My second ISP is only used occasionally, for when my main one is out of
action.  So if I have to use the second ISP, I either delay posting mail
until I get around to calling my main ISP.  Or I temporarily change the
SMTP server in YAM (without saving the change).

However, changing ISPs, and making all my internet software continue to
work, by changing configurations.  Would mean changing all of the
following configurations:

Miami's (dialup number, DNS server and user log-on details),
YAM's (SMTP server),
IBrowse's (SMTP server),
AWeb (SMTP server),
Thor's (News posting server, SMTP server).

I might have one or two other programs with ISP specific configuration
requirements, too.  But I can't think of any right now.  On the PC, I know
there'd certainly be more, as various programs use things like SMTP
servers to send files to somewhere, even though they're not mail programs
in their own right.

So, either you save multiple configurations for each program, with
different SMTP server settings, but all the other settings the same.
Which is a pain when you change one setting, then have to re-save them all
(e.g. because you've changed a MIME setting, and need everything to be
consistent).

It would all be a lot easier, for instance, if you could set your mail
clients to use a $SMTPmailserver variable, news servers for $NNTPnewserver
variable, etc.  And use Miami to set those variables to the right server
names, depending on which ISP you actually dialled into.

Then you'd only need to change one thing:  Which ISP you called in Miami,
as it would take care of all of the rest (the other programs would need
configuring, once, and once only, with a generic set up).

Nice and simple.  That's the way I like to be able to /use/ software.
