If you use the mocal sandwich thermostat like the one FM sells, you can
just swap it in place of the factory one. If you're not intending to
hook your external cooler to that point, then you need the shorter
threaded tube from a 1.6.

Subject: Factory Oil Cooler Removal

Greetings to all,

I am in the middle of my build and started thinking about the factory
oil cooler and whether anyone has removed it. I can't find any info on
it so I want to ask the masses.

I realize the importance of oil coolers and will be incorporating one in
the nose of the car of much higher efficiency than the OEM one.

Is there anyone that has done away with the stocker?

What would you need to make this a possibility? Can you simply use a
longer filter or would I have to incorporate a spacer to take place of
the cooler to make sure the filter will be seated properly? Anyone that
has any info or experience with this, please help me out.

Best Regards,
