Your argument is legitimate, but what if he **really** wants that car? What's the value then?

It goes (sort of) along side the counterfeit argument - if a counterfeit is absolutely indistinguishable from the original, is it worth any less than the original? Value and "fair price" are not always linked - I really like $20 bills, in fact they're worth about $20 to me. However "fair market value" places the minting/printing cost around $5 per bill and I'm pretty sure our government (under the best auspices) is a not-for-profit organization, so where's the other $15? In this instance, it's in his desire to own that car.

FWIW, Personally, I'm with you - I probably wouldn't have made the same purchase for the fears he now has of  learning the truth to the other 100K miles... How easy is it going to be to find darned near *any* replacement part for that car? I do respect his decision though...
