Hey wally,

A friend of mine is working on a full digital gauge setup for his 69 Camaro. He
is going to be using Linux and setting up X server to display to a few small
lcd's. I don't know much more about it but I can ask him for more info if you
would like.

Eric

Well, I know for sure my PCM reports:

Speed
RPM
MAP
air flow
inj p/w, left and right banks
O2 voltage, left and right sensor
BLM, left and right
Coolant temp
IAT
TPS
run time

And other stuff too.. and ti reports it fast enough I don't see a lag with all
those (and more) on a screen. The communications protocol is more limited, but
the data I want is for sure in there and plenty quick enough for a display.
I've run the car with the laptop going and it's pretty good (much better than I
figured it would be).

This is part of a bigger project/issue.. I really *hate* the RX7 factory
gauges, they are worthless (OPG and temp specifically). I want to replace all
the gauges with ones that work better. The only one giving me trouble is the
fuel level, otherwise it's a matter of stuffing them in the hole. That IS a
problem, because I want 7 things (Speed, RPM, volt, fuel level, OPG, water
temp, oil temp )and I really only have room for 6. I was considering a combo
speedo/tach (Cyberdyne or Dakota Digital), or a digital numeric speedo and a
real analog tach.. but I don't really like either option. I also considered the
FM Shift-I plus VDO speedo, but 7 LED's as the only tach didn't appeal to me. I
minimally have to buy a VDO speedo to the tune of $120 or so. I figured if I
can find a suitable OBD gauge instead for a slight cost increase, that's an
option.. Not sure I am going to be able to pull off what I want to do, which is
new gauges without pillar or dash pods... I can fit 6 x 2 1/16" + 1 x 3 1/8"..
so either the tach or the speedo has to be a 2 1/16". Speedo would be worthless
unless digital numeric (which I am not a fan of), tach would probably be ok if
I did the Shift-I as well.

I don’t think OBD I will have anything like that. It really doesn’t report data
like OBD II does

Nope, you don't misunderstand, that is OBD 2 but I need an OBD 1 version tho...
which I can't seem to find yet. :(

So, I am looking for an OBD 1 version similar to that. Scangage is cool, but
also OBD2 it seems. So no joy there either.

Howdy all!

I'm facing having to buy an electronic speedo for the RX7 project, but was
contemplating a OBD dashboard device instead.. any suggestions for an OBD-I
dashboard device? Something like this:
http://tunertools.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DT-DashDAQ

Device would be semipermanent, and may take place of the stock cluster or be
integrated into that opening. I am able to perform he functions via laptop
software, but I am trying to find a way to have a speedo in the car via the OBD
port. No clue what other options are out there, but am open to suggestions.. so
fire away!
