Sand the area well down to metal.. About 1/2 to 3/4 inch from the hole all the way around. You may also want to run a drill thru the hole and make it a teeeeeny it larger to make sure that you¹ve gotten any rust that may have started IN the hole.
Mix up some body filler and let it set up a little before applying it so that you don¹t smoosh a ton thru the hole. (or, alternatively, if you can access the bottom of the hole, put a piece of tape over it to prevent too mugh filler from getting thru) Then, apply a thin layer to the area, but don¹t go past the sanded area. Let the filler fully cure. Read the container it will tell you how long. Then, sand the filler down with a fine sandpaper until it is smooth and you can¹t feel a transition at the edge and it feels totally flat. Do this for all the holes. When complete, wipe the area down with a tackrag or a very slightly damp rag. He goal is to get all the sanding dust up. Then, hit the areas with a sandable primer. Use 2 light coats until the entire patch area is covered. If the area is hidden, you can stop here. If it is visible and you want to complete the repair back to ³like new,² let me know and we can start going into the details there.
